Darin Brown
Darin Brown is a NY-based piano player, singer and songwriter. He has a B.A. from Manhattan School of Music and has toured the world with Enrique Iglesias and throughout Europe as the musical director for Willy DeVille. Darin’s current project features new songs co-written with the late Doug McCormick who wrote for Paul Anka, Dusty Springfield, Gladys Knight and Roberto Carlos.
Darin’s early love for music started with honky-tonk and boogie-woogie piano sessions with his self-taught father. Despite classical lessons, he found a deep connection with the Great American Songbook by playing through the many fake books in the piano bench. That love was re-ignited when Darin and Doug McCormick began their journey as writing partners.
As a performer, Darin has played at top NY venues and met Doug during a Plaza event where he was asked to sing “Get Yourself to Love,” a song Doug wrote for Dusty Springfield. Doug loved Darin’s performance and asked him to record a version, leading to a writing partnership.
Doug was more the “lyric” guy, Darin was more the “music” guy and neither was afraid to step into the other’s “territory.” It became clear that their default writing style was the Great American Songbook and that Darin’s voice and piano playing fit the songs to a “T.” Before Doug’s passing last year, they amassed a vast catalog of songs that Darin is now excited to share with the world. While staying true to the tradition, it’s clear that these songs are of today. Through lyric content, production and ultimately performance, their songs have a modern flair and are becoming known as “modern standards.”
On May 9, 2023, Darin will release a new single titled “NY/LA,” a remake of the classic song “Brought Up In New York (Brought Down in L.A.)” originally written by Paul Anka and Doug McCormick. This track features new material co-written by McCormick and Brown and is a heartfelt tribute to McCormick, who passed away one year ago on the same day as the song’s release.
