The third album by guitarist Dominic Miller echoes the melodic, moody, romantic sounds of a Sting album without lyrics or singing. What we hear is the instrumental interplay of Miller with pianist Jacob Karlzon, bassist Nicolas Fiszman and drummer Ziv Ravitz. The comparison is not surprising as Miller has played with Sting for the last 30 years. He co-wrote one of Sting's hits, 1993's “Shape Of My Heart." Guitarist Dominic Miller''s 2017 ECM debut Silent Light was a low key affair that focused on his solo classical guitar (plus a bit of light percussion). Dominic Miller con Silent Light firma il suo album al tempo stesso più ambizioso, delicato e riuscito. Ci sono tanti motivi che rendono queste undici composizioni, se non il migliore, uno dei più bei capitoli della carriera del chitarrista argentino, noto al grande pubblico soprattutto per la lunga militanza, sia in studio che sul palco, al fianco di Sting. La prima è la scelta di un album solo (o quasi-solo, visto che qua e là Miller decide di ...

Classical guitarist Dominic Miller makes his ECM debut with a largely solo program. It's a gentle, lyrical affair, reflecting his experience living in Argentina, the United States, England, and France, as well as decades of international touring as a working musician. The Brazilian influence is especially strong in pieces like opener “What You Didn't Say" and “Baden" (dedicated to Brazilian guitarist/composer Baden Powell). Percussionist Miles Bould plays with a light touch, reminiscent of Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos' playing with guitarist ...

Dominic Miller Absinthe (ECM) Guitarist and composer Miller delivers power and subtlety in equal measure. Abetted by producer Manfred Eicher’s canny guidance and ECM’s flawless sound and studio presence, Miller draws on inspiration from painters of France’s impressionist period. His liner essay emphasizes the importance to his musical conception of works by Cezanne, Renoir, Lautrec, Monet and other impressionist painters. He credits, “the American imagination and vision itself,” for initially recognizing the importance of the French impressionism that began to ...
