Doug Ebert

Jazz bassist and composer Doug Ebert's musical aspiration began at age four when he attended Mercyhurst Center for the Arts in Erie, PA. Over the course of his childhood he studied guitar, baritone horn and piano. As an undergraduate at Marquette University he started playing the bass violin and studying jazz theory at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. For over ten years, Ebert was a fixture in Milwaukee's jazz community, appearing regularly at clubs such as the Jazz Estate and larger venues such as Summerfest and Jazz In The Park. In June of 2007, Ebert released his first album "Times Change" which features his compositions played by several of his Milwaukee bandmates. In August of 2007, Ebert relocated to San Francisco, CA and soon began playing with his current bandmates Terrence Brewer, Tim Campbell and Rob Rhodes. In 2011, he released his second album “Poor Dog”, which was received with high acclaim. His third soon-to-be released album “Trials & Tribulations” is a musical tribute to his wife in recognition of her successful battle against leukemia. Ebert also works as a sideman with a variety of jazz and world music artists in the Bay Area, which include guitarist Terrence Brewer's Jazz Trio/Quartet and Citizen Rhythm, vibraphonist Gerry Grosz (heard on “Poor Dog”), saxophonist/educator Jim Grantham, guitarist Calvin Keys, the eclectic world fusion group Ultra World X-tet, led by Gary Schwantes and the Turkish band Kardash. Ebert has performed at many Bay Area clubs including Yoshi’s San Francisco and the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz.
