Eric Siereveld

For over 25 years, trumpeter Eric Siereveld has built a reputation as a multifaceted performer, composer and educator. Deeply influenced by the hard bop/post bop tradition, his compositions and improvisations are historically rooted and refreshingly modern. He is the leader of the Organic Quintet, a fresh take on the classic organ jazz quintets of the 1960’s. This group features NYC guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg, Indianapolis organist Steve Snyder, Madison based tenor saxophonist Tony Barba and Milwaukee drummer Mitch Shiner. Their debut recording features all original compositions from the pen of Siereveld and Kreisberg. A veteran of the New York City music scene, in 2018 Eric relocated to Monroe, LA to take the position of Assistant Professor of Trumpet & Jazz Studies at the University of Louisiana Monroe. A native of Cincinnati, OH, Eric attended Morehead State University where he received a Bachelor’s of Music Education. While at MSU, he studied trumpet with one of the country’s premiere trumpet performers and teachers, Greg Wing. Eric continued his studies at Indiana University’s prestigious Jacobs School of Music. At IU he received a Masters degree in Jazz Studies and studied trumpet with Joey Tartell and sought additional instruction from trumpet guru William Adam. He studied improvisation with the legendary David Baker, and composition and arranging with Brent Wallarab. After IU, Eric relocated to NYC permanently. During his time in New York, he was an in demand performer and freelance musician. He led his own trio, quartet, and hard bop dedicated sextet, The Usual suspects all over the greater New York City area. Broadway tour credits include; Young Frankenstein, two tours with Elf: The Musical, Addams Family (International), and Nice Work if You Can Get It. Eric served as the Principal Trumpeter of Bronx Opera for two seasons and as Assistant Principal for the Bronx Orchestra from 2012-2014. Eric performed for the 2015/16 & 2017/18 Broadway production of Elf: The Musical at Madison Square Garden. In the summer of 2016, he performed with the Denver based band “The Radio” at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in Philadelphia and Cleveland. The “organic" in trumpeter Eric Siereveld's Organic Quintet doesn't mean the group has no artificial ingredients or synthetic preservatives; rather, it denotes the fact that the quintet's modus operandi rests in some measure on the well-defined tone colors produced by Steve Snyder's indispensable Hammon B3 organ. The word “indispensable" is used because it is Siereveld's purpose to keep one eye securely on the present while peering with the other toward the history-making tradition of jazz-organ groups led by such giants ...
