Destination JAZZ to present Grammy Award winner Joe Lovano Quartet and 'Rising Stars' quintet with Patrick Bartley & Georgia Heers – April 27 & 28, 2024

Destination JAZZ will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28 at Waynesboro Area Senior High School auditorium, 550 E. 2nd St., Waynesboro, PA. Presented by the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro/Destination ARTS!, this new event will feature world renowned jazz musicians including Joe Lovano, Patrick Bartley, Georgia Heers, and Alex Claffy as well as local student jazz bands from Waynesboro and Chambersburg.

Headlining this inaugural festival on Saturday, April 27, at 7 pm is Grammy Award winning saxophonist and composer Joe Lovano and his quartet including John Menegon (bass), and Lamy Istrefi (drums). Also performing at 5 pm will be the Chambersburg Area Senior High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Nicole Albright.

On Sunday, April 28, at 5 pm, a very special all star quintet will feature some of the most highly regarded young players from New York City including Grammy nominated Patrick Bartley (alto saxophone), Georgia Heers (vocals), Alexander Claffy (bass), William Schwartzman (piano), and Joe Peri (drums). Also performing at 3 pm will be the Waynesboro Area Senior High Jazz Band under the direction of Christopher Ritter, and the Waynesboro Area Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Phil Thorpe.



About Joe Lovano

In addition to his Grammy win, Joe Lovano has 14 other Grammy nominations, won DownBeat Magazine ’s Critics and Readers Polls countless times as Tenor Saxophonist and Musician of the Year , and numerous other industry awards. From 1991 through 2016, Lovano released an unprecedented 25 records as a leader for the historic Blue Note Records. Joe has performed and recorded with a long list of jazz greats including Woody Herman, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Bill Frisell, Tony Bennett, Abbey Lincoln, Charlie Haden, John Scofield, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Hank Jones, Chucho Valdés, Ornette Coleman, Diana Krall, and many others. Members of Lovano’s quartet include Argentinian pianist Leo Genovese (who himself won a Grammy in 2023 for “best jazz solo” with Wayne Shorter),bassist John Mennegon, and drummer Lamy Istrefi

About Patrick Bartley

Patrick Bartley, Jr. is a Grammy-nominated saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader from Hollywood, Florida who is known for his boundless versatility, virtuosic technique, and expressive vocal-like sound. He has performed and recorded with some of the greatest musical masters in the world, including Wynton Marsalis, Jon Batiste, Emmet Cohen, Larry Grenadier, Steve Miller, Herbie Hancock, Louis Hayes, Carole King, Jimmy Cobb, and many others. Patrick is currently most known for his appearances on the multi-million-viewed “Live from Emmet's Place" YouTube sessions, as well as for starting the J-MUSIC Ensemble, a band dedicated to examining the world of modern Japanese music through the lens of jazz. He now resides in Tokyo, Japan, where he plans to continue building his community through music performance and educational efforts.

About Georgia Heers

Georgia Heers is a vocalist and composer hailing from Greer, South Carolina. After studying jazz performance at Oberlin College and her masters degree at the Juilliard School, and since graduating in 2023 she has become a staple at legendary venues in venues in NYC including Mezzrow, Dizzy’s, The Django, Minton’s Playhouse, Smalls, The Jazz Gallery, as well as Chris’ Jazz Café in Philadelphia, The Jazz Showcase in Chicago, and The Kennedy Center in DC. She has collaborated with Terrell Stafford, Cyrus Chestnut, Clarence Penn, Rodney Whitaker, Camila Meza, Tim Warfield, Warren Wolf, Emmet Cohen, Joe Farnsworth, Benny Benack, Bryan Carter Ben Williams, and more.

About Alexander Claffy

Alexander Claffy (bass) was raised in a musical household in the heart of Philadelphia. Since moving to New York City in 2011, he has had the honor of working with many of his living heroes and contemporaries including Jimmy Cobb, Louis Hayes, Harold Mabern, Randy Brecker, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Christian Scott, Joey Alexander, Emmet Cohen, Benny Benack, Veronica Swift, Wallace Roney and many more. He has recorded for the Verve, HighNote, Positone, RopeADope and LaReserve record labels.
