Following their hugely successful SOLD OUT concert at Catalina's in Hollywood last month, The Hollywood Jazz Orchestra are performing Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite" at the historic Dunbar Hotel on Central Avenue. Michael Ellington, the Duke's great grand nephew, will be hosting the event. The Honorable Jan Perry, the Councilwoman responsible for the recent renovation of The Dunbar will also be in attendance. The Hollywood Jazz Orchestra (HJO) are going into the Recording Studio at the end of March. LAJO have also been invited to perform at the NAMM Convention in Anaheim mid-April, and are headlining at least one International Jazz Festival back East at the end of June.
The Dunbar was the Hotel where all the leading black jazz artists of the '30s, '40s and '50s stayed when appearing in Los Angeles. Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, to name but a few. And all ghosts" are welcome to attend!
