A dreamy and sumptuous blend of peace, calm, and tranquility.
In his most recent digital release, Reflections, flutist Bill McBirnie performs a series of entirely improvised solo vignettes on both flute and alto flute in what is a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to the strongest of his influences on the instrument, Paul Horn. Bill is arguably the ideal candidate for such a tribute, not only because of his longstanding allegiance to Paul Horn, but also because of Bill's unique musical sensibility and impeccable technique, both of which have enabled him to create a genuinely unique collection of reflections for Paul Horn. In addition to the peaceful and tranquil charm of the music itself is a sound which is pure and pristine throughout, complete with an Inside the Taj Mahal"-esque touch, giving the album an historical context, as well as a voluptuous ambience, from beginning to end. Bill's Reflections are, beyond doubt, a fitting and profound testament to the memory of Paul Horn.
Reflections (for Paul Horn) is available at Bandcamp, iTunes and other major music retailers.
