Larry Tamanini

Jazz guitarist Larry Tamanini has been a stalwart of the Philadelphia Jazz scene since the late 1990s. In that time Larry has developed an unique tone and voice on the guitar that has made him one of the most respected and sought after guitarists in the area.

Larry was born into a family that loved and valued great music and it was this support system at home that encouraged him to pick up the guitar and follow his own love of music.

Preferring the most direct way to the bandstand, Larry decided to forego music school and opted to study privately with renowned guitar instructor Dennis Sandole and ultimately Jazz guitar icon, Pat Martino. It was during Larry's time with Pat that he was urged into performing more and finding his own voice in the music. It was at the famous Ortlieb's jazz club bandstand that Larry received the most formal education, being able to play and interact with the best musicians in Philadelphia in a non-academic environment would prove to be an invaluable experience for any young musician and it was these nightly encounters with the likes of Mickey Roker, Mike Boone, Byron Landham, Sid Simmons, and so many world-class artists that Larry was able to meet and perform on albums and festivals with artists such as Joey DeFrancesco, Lenny White, Richie Cole, Phil Woods.

Larry maintains a busy playing schedule and runs a Jazz Jam Session in Doylestown to keep the music going and pass on the mentorship skills he learned along the way.

Larry Tamanini: Front & Center

jny: Philadelphia leaves such deep and wide fingerprints on guitarist Larry Tamanini's Front and Center that he could list the city in its credits. Tamanini emerged on the Philadelphia jazz scene in the late 1990s, studying privately under Philly jazz guitar legends Dennis Sandole and Pat Martino, whose cerebral yet soulful sound sometimes echoes through Tamanini's own tones. He discovered more public education at Philadelphia's renowned Ortleib's Jazz Club, on the bandstand with Sid Simmons, Mickey Roker and ...
