Lucas Amorim
Brazilian vibist Lucas Amorim has established himself as an exciting bandleader and in-demand sideman on the New York scene.
Lucas was born in Florianopolis, Brazil and began studying drums at the early age of 8 and soon was playing at local clubs and at recording sessions also appearing on television and radio programs multiple times.
In 2011, looking for better opportunities Lucas moved to Sao Paulo and was admitted into the prestigious "Conservatory of Tatui" for the Symphonic Percussion program. In his second semester of study Lucas competed at the institution’s percussion championship winning first place which caught the local community's attention. While at the conservatory Lucas started to study improvisation and jazz vibraphone by himself and soon became an in-demand band leader and sideman.
In 2014, looking to follow his dreams, Lucas moved to Boston, USA to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music “Five Week Performance Program” and was given a scholarship to study at the full-time program. At Berklee Lucas studied vibraphone and improvisation under the guidance of vibists Ed Saindon and Gustavo Agatiello as well as Ed Tomassi, Dave Santoro, George Garzone, Rick Dimuzio and Neal Smith among others. In 2017 Lucas was awarded “The Most Active Mallet Player of The Year" award for his outstanding musicianship and contribution to the percussion department. Lucas was also a constant recipient of Berklee’s “Dean’s List” in recognition of exceptional academic performance. Lucas graduated from Berklee College of Music in May 2019, pursuing a Bachelor’s of Music in Performance.
In 2020 Lucas auditioned and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music in Manhattan, New York for the Jazz Master's program. While at MSM Lucas studied under the guidance of vibists Joe Locke and Joel Ross as well as pianist Mark Soskin (Sonny Rollins), Phil Markowitz (Dave Liebman), Jeremy Manasia and Jaleel Shaw among others.
Lucas graduated from Manhattan School of Music in May 2022 pursuing a Jazz Master's degree in Jazz Vibraphone.
Lucas currently lives NYC and performs all over the U.S. territories.
