Matthew Charles Heulitt
Matthew Charles Heulitt recently relocated to Pittsburgh PA after living and working in the bay area for 25 years. He's currently working with bass player Tony Grey and drummer David Throckmorton playing jazz fusion. His musical range and skills lead him to playing funk with Zigaboo, African folk music with Vusi, fusion/pop/rock with Narada, Zappa-esque art rock with MoeTar, and a wide range of instrumental jazz and lush ambient home productions that defy categorization but always deliver a rich feeling. MCH has a Bachelors of Music and attended DePaul University, Wayne State University, and The University of Miami. Matthew is an experienced and thoughtful teacher of guitar, practice, and patience.

Guitarist/composer Matthew Charles Heulitt has been around for a while, gigging for over a decade in drumming master Zigaboo Modeliste's funk band. Heulitt is also a member of ex-Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer Narada Michael Walden's band; it is therefore no surprise that he displays an acute rhythmic sense in his playing. In fact, Heulitt's approach to the guitar stems from the way he hears other instruments; he adapts the agility of the piano and horns into his playing, ...

Guitarist Matthew Charles Heulitt's eclectic CV hints at something of his genre-defying style; a member of drummer Zigaboo Modeliste's band and sideman in former Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report drummer Narada Michael Walden's group, he has also performed with Sting, Taj Mahal, Micky Hart and David Grisman, amongst others. This, his debut as leader, impresses on a number of levels. In what is essentially a trio setting, the compositions switch between electric and acoustic and explore elements of jazz, rock ...

A subtle change in the opening Resurrected" is an indicator of things to come on guitarist Matthew Charles Heulitt's Room To Run, as the introductory chord progression deviates from its western motif. That shift is informed by the guitar's sweeping volume swell, before opening the path for a statically charged solo and resonating touches by bassist Dan Feizli and drummer Jon Arkin. The eleven tracks are a reflection of Heulitt's creativity and musicianship--with over twenty years experience ...

"Matthew Charles Heulitt is clearly a musician with an open mind and one who refuses to be restricted by the limits of simplistic categorization. Possessing a deep knowledge and respect for the music of the past, Heulitt's focus is, nevertheless, very much forward-looking."
