About Me

Brian Eaton is not only a musician/composer and engineer/producer but the playlist editor at All About Jazz (he does NOT write album reviews). As playlist editor, Brian oversees the curation team and process with a hands-on approach to bring jazz music lovers the AAJ Spotify playlist, Jazz Menagerie: a captivating mix of songs spanning the many styles and periods of jazz... from emerging artists to established stars to icons.

As an Allegra Drums Artist, Brian has been honing his drum skills since the age of nine. Growing up in a musical family inspired his passion for the art as he was surrounded by the music of jazz and progressive rock. In college, Eaton continued to follow his passion and studied music theory, composition, and jazz piano.

In the early 90s, Brian opened his recording studio and indie label, Eatin’ Records, in Chicago. Over the years he has played in several original bands, along with his solo projects, while producing/recording a multitude of artists like jazz saxophonist Frank Catalano, Usurper, Dave Uhrich, Eaton’s band North (with over 45K Pandora radio spins to date), and T.D. Clark (Dee Snider guitarist) who toured with Bad Company and Ted Nugent while promoting his debut Eatin’ release, Personalities. Other credits include recording/producing the soundtrack for the Robin Hood Stunt Show (Time Warner Entertainment) at Six Flags Theme Park St. Louis and recording/producing several tracks from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for Carnivore.

My Jazz Story

I was exposed to jazz at a very early age. My father has always been an avid jazz lover and singer with an extensive record collection, so there was always jazz playing. As a musician, jazz is the place where there are no boundaries and, for a musician, that is exciting. It's hard not to love a genre that encourages you to explore, invent, experiment, push boundaries and approach a canvas that is limitless and open...jazz is the musician's playground.
