Jack Gold-Molina
Jack Gold-Molina is a photojournalist, drummer, and founder of the Sol Disk creative jazz and experimental music label.
About Me
As well as being a music photojournalist, I play drums, rock and creative jazz. I
started out as a young kid gigging in the Seattle punk scene and playing
psychedelic/experimental rock with the bands Quantum and The Opening around
1980. I did a lot of playing with musicians around the Seattle area as a teenager,
including an after-hours jam session with the late Tom Fogerty of Creedence
Clearwater Revival and a benefit show for homeless kids. Quantum stayed together,
and in the early 1990s changed our name to Power Source until we split up in 1995,
marking a 15-year run as a band.
Flame Tree featuring Nik Turner, an album of free-form psychedelic music that
marries elements of psychedelic rock and creative jazz, has been released on
Cleopatra Records. The band Flame Tree was put together at the suggestion of Nik
Turner (Hawkwind, Inner City Unit), a project that began in 2009. It features Nik
playing tenor saxophone and flute, experimental/progressive rock guitarist Dennis
Rea, and bassist Paul PK Kemmish. Barney Bubbles inspired artist Nazar Ali Khan
did the album art. The CD is available at fine record stores or at the Cleopatra
Records website.
I am also currently working with the space rock collective Spirits Burning,
contributing drums and percussion on the albums Make Believe It Real and
Starhawk. Both feature stellar work from members of the Gong and Hawkwind
families including Daevid Allen and Bridget Wishart, among others.
I am recording and performing with the Pacific Northwest psychedelic rock band
Spectral Waves, a band that features the guitar work of Simon Henneman and
Dennis Rea, and Cary Kindberg on bass and vocals. I have also worked closely with
original Heart guitarist and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Roger Fisher, and
we have two album releases with free-form jazz group The Acoustic Reign Project.
Other releases include: One Hundred Years Of Abstraction - Chris Pugh/Jack Gold-
Molina, Colored Houses - Jack Gold-Molina Trio, Daylight - Jack Gold Quartet
