About Me

Marat Ingeldeev is a writer, researcher and performer based in London.

Together with Irina Sevastyanova, he co-hosts violet snow — a podcast in Russian about new music and those who make it. Since September 2022, they have produced more than 35 episodes, including themed episodes, interviews with guests and specials.

As a journalist, Marat has written articles on music, culture and society for publishing outlets such as Bachtrack, TEMPO, All About Jazz, POSITIONEN, Muzikalnaya Zhizn, Stravinsky.online and Muzikalnaya Akademiya. He has interviewed composers Laurence Crane, Johannes Kreidler, Matthew Shlomowitz, Sergej Newski, Elena Firsova, Neil Luck, Elena Rykova and Roger Redgate, among others.

In August 2023, he participated in the Words on Music programme, run by Kate Molleson and Peter Meanwell, at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse. During the course, he produced and hosted the podcast Talking Darmstadt, wrote the text Bridging the Channel: British new music in a post-Brexit Europe and created the audio mockumentary Rating Darmstadt.

As a researcher, Marat has given lectures and presentations at the Gnesin Contemporary Music Week between 2020 and 2023, as well as ZIL Culture Centre. His research interests encompass a range of topics such as metamodernism in music and culture, music aesthetics, interdisciplinary experimental performance and new music in Russia. In May 2022, he co-curated the charity concert Piano Music For Ukraine at Pushkin House.

As a performer, Marat plays the piano and live electronics. He has performed at various venues and events, including IKLECTIK, Arebyte Gallery, Sound Festival, Hundred Years Gallery, Southbank Centre, Cheltenham Music Festival and Teatro Baltazar Dias. He is one of the founding members of the New Maker Ensemble, a group dedicated to experimenting with various forms of new music and performance art. Together with Roxanna Albayati, he creates collaborative musical experiences investigating the intersections between Iranian classical music, improvisation and live electronics.
