Scott Gudell
Music historian and writer since 1970s
About Me
Scott Gudell –
Jazz is a mosaic. Thousands – if not millions – of pieces contribute to a complex and evolving creation. As both a
music fan and a historian, I’ve been fascinated by all types of music. I’ve attended over 1500 shows including
Miles
Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Son House, Muddy Waters, Led Zeppelin, the Who, John Williams, Sir Georg Solti, Merle
Haggard, Emmy Lou Harris, three of the four Beatles and many others. Some artists have granted me ‘all access’
including Weather Report, Ron Carter, Johnny Cash and Patti Smith. As a writer, I’ve had over 1000 music related
articles published covering jazz, rock, classical, country, blues and even world beat. In addition to numerous LP
and
CD reviews, I’ve interviewed amazingly creative musicians such as Artie Shaw, Little Richard, Lou Gramm and
more.
My latest project zeros in on researching and writing two books. Music 101 (a working title) is a behind the scenes
look at brief encounters with over 100 world class recording artists. The second book is a look at the British
Invasion
and how U.S. blues influenced the Brits with a focus on a band I’ve been passionate about for decades –
Fleetwood
Mac. Finally, I’m on the board of directors of a potent, creative regional music hall of fame, the Rochester Music
Hall
of Fame, located in the western part of New York State (Rochestermusic.org)
