Scott H. Thompson
Scott H. Thompson is a highly effective strategist for clients seeking enhanced media visibility.
About Me
Scott Thompson served as Assistant Director of Public Relations for Jazz at Lincoln Center for almost
a decade. He was brought in to help launch the organization's new facilities in
the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle in 2004. He was also Publicist for Dizzy's Club Coca-
Cola. During that time, he established himself as a leading publicist in the
entertainment field, garnering praise from peers and music professionals alike. Thompson initiated
Scott Thompson PR in April 2013 and is growing a select client list, specializing in entertainment
publicity.
With a background in broadcast journalism, Thompson's voice and work has been heard on the
Associated Press Radio Network, the Mutual Broadcasting Network and NBC-AM New York with the
Imus In The Morning Show. He has covered everything from Presidential press conferences to hard
news in-field assignments. Thompson co-produced the New
Haven Jazz Festival from 1994-2000, and worked in the New Haven Mayor's Office of Public
Information. His experience spans radio, television, print and the internet. He knows how to pitch a
story and to whom. Thompson has interviewed everybody from the Defense
Secretary of the United States to Frank Zappa.
A prolific writer, Thompson has contributed to DownBeat, JazzTimes, Jazziz, and the All Music Guide.
He penned the CD liner notes to Herbie Hancock Head Hunters, Weather Report 8:30, George
Duke Brazilian Love Affair, Stan Getz The New Collection, The Essence
of Maynard Ferguson, and The Essence of Al DiMeola. He wrote all the monthly Playbill lead
features since 2004 at JALC and continues to do so, totaling 100-plus articles. He is one of the
original
members of the Jazz Journalists Association.
While working in New York City, the media capital of the world, Thompson strengthened his contacts
worldwide with his strong communicative skills and his easy-going personality. He has many friends
in the business. Whether it's landing features on Japan's
NHK television network or getting reviews in the New York Times, you can trust Thompson to get the
job done.
“My latest album Higher (2019) on ArtistShare is a slight departure for me in that the song cycle
consists of art songs played by jazz musicians (as well as sung by classical singers). It might have
been a difficult album to promote but Scott started off strong using his experience and connections.
Very quickly the critics gave us a listen and ended up supporting us overwhelmingly with stellar
previews and reviews. Then we had a year of touring to wonderful venues here and in Europe. We
filled every venue, large and small, with Scott being attentive to my concerns for cities, venues where
they might not be as familiar with my music. Amazing! We have had a huge year and these days, that
is rare. I would never try this without Scott again. Highly recommended!” - Patricia Barber
Over the last nine years or so working with Scott Thompson at JALC has been a pleasure and a
learning experience for me. I always felt like he was my personal Publicist for whichever event we
were focusing on. His love of the music, the people and the passion he gives to his work is infectious.
I look forward to working with Scott again in the near future. - Joe Lovano, Musician
