Vince Federici
Jazz Guitarist/Jazz Singer
About Me
Jazz came late for me. I began as most other players do, falling for Led Zeppelin, Jimi
Hendrix, Pink Floyd, even Motley Crue. But as I learned how to play, Bossa Nova began to
creep into my ears. It finally dawned on me that these players are making decisions on what
to play as they played it. Improvisation. Like a bolt of lighting.
I went to UArts, studied Jazz Performance on guitar and got my B.A. After a few years of
playing everything except jazz, I'm now doing every Monday night in South Philly at Connie's
Ric Rac from 9-12 with some fabulous musicians.
I teach music, and I perform music.
My Jazz Story
I love jazz because of the fluidity of the vocabulary needed to play it. I was first exposed to jazz by my dad playing Bill Evans tunes on piano and listening to Jobim. I met McCoy Tyner and Joe Lovano The best show I ever attended was a trio show with Paul Motion, Bill Frisell, and Joe Lovano. The first jazz record I bought was The Great Summit: Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington My advice to new listeners is to be patient. Play jazz live. Its the only way to really get into it.
