Mike Freedman

Mike Freedman is a professional guitarist, composer and instructor based out of Toronto, Canada, where he has been active on the Toronto music scene for over 30 years. Mike gained initial experience studying classical guitar in his youth for many years, but then went on to attend Berklee College Of Music where he honed his skills as a jazz guitarist and composer. Over the years Mike has recorded two singer/songwriter CD's of his own material, as well as two CD's of instrumental guitar music. This music has been featured internationally in TV and film placements as well as receiving Honourable Mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. As a composer, Mike has also written the score for three feature films and many short films and has co-written with many other artists including; Tia Brazda, Ed Roman, The Willows, Steven Taetz, Barbra Lica and Ian Jutsun.. Mike recently produced and co-wrote Simone Morris's CD which debuted at #1 on the Itunes Jazz Charts in Canada, while all three of Tia Brazda's albums have reached #1 on the Jazz Itunes chart as well. Mike has extensive touring and live performing experience, in Toronto and around the world. Mike has toured both the U.S and Europe several times with Tia Brazda. Through performing with Tia and her band, Mike has played many main stage festivals at such places as; the Montreal Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and TD Jazz Festival, to name just a few. Mike is releasing his first jazz instrumental CD in March, entitled “Into The Daybreak” Inspired by 30 years of performing and writing in the Toronto music scene, as well as touring extensively in the US and Europe with other artists, Mike took to the studio to record some of his original songs and channel his creative energies. The CD features 9 of Mike’s tunes which blend his love of many different styles of music, ranging from jazz, latin, to blues and ambient music. These 9 contrasting and colorful tunes glimmer with inspired performances and vibrancy. The thread that runs through these contrasting tunes is the strong melodic content. The tunes have a depth and feel that is both natural and familiar but also unique and memorable.
