Hank Levy Legacy Band
ABOUT HANK LEVY Hank came of age in the 1940s, when big bands crisscrossed the country playing one-nighters, and when people in Baltimore and other cities regularly went out dancing in nightclubs and ballrooms. There were many excellent bands in the area staffed by musicians in the armed forces and musicians and ideas circulated freely among these groups. Levy was part of this milieu (he attended the Navy School of Music during his three-year hitch) and took full advantage of it in his later career as a teacher, composer, and bandleader. A Baltimore native, Hank graduated from Baltimore City College, where he led his first band, then attended several colleges, including an unhappy year at the Peabody Conservatory

Roberto Spadoni
Born:
I feel lucky. I fell in love with music and she took me by hand and guides me on the paths of life, the difficult one and the easy ones. Lights and shadows, joys and sorrows: there is no day that music does not resonate within me. Thanks to her I have been able to work with many musicians and many orchestras in precious collaborations and to play in many festivals, I have been able to carry out ambitious projects and I could perform teaching in conservatories and private institutions seeing many young people grow day by day. Thanks to her, I recorded CDs, wrote books and translated others in Italian. Quoting Duke Ellington, I can say that "Music is my Mistress". Between 2007 and 2012 I graduated in I and II level in Jazz at the Conservatorio di Musica di Benevento, where I am now a professor in Jazz Composition. My training initially was mainly self-taught, working on the records and the few scores that could be found in the years of my youth

The Toots Project
When accordionist Toots Thielemans turned his attention to the chromatic harmonica, in occupied Belgium in the 1940s, he picked a chameleon of an instrument which was to lead to a musical career without boundaries. Was it something about this unique and rarely-heard instrument which took him into the worlds of bebop bands, electric funk, brazilian jazz and film & TV scores? Or was it the highly-personal voice of this soft-spoken North European gentleman which endeared him to the vanguard of American musicians and composers, from Charlie Parker to Quincy Jones, Benny Goodman to Jaco Pastorius? In a concert programme endorsed by Thielemans himself shortly before his death in 2016, harmonica maestro Phil Hopkins joins some of the UK’s most inventive jazz musicians to explore the eclectic repertoire of Toots
