About the Album

"Blue Palestine" is the final commissioned work by prolific composer, pianist, and bandleader Carla Bley, who composed the work for her former mentee Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. O'Farrill, who credits his own successes to Bley's influence, describes the commission as a "full-circle moment" and a final gift to his "guiding star." The four-part recording also features Bley's daughter, Karen Mantler, on harmonica and organ, and Patricia Brennan on vibes.
