Chant

Chant is the second track on my new solo album Moon Over Lake. It's very much African influenced and is dedicated to Loïc Martin, a guitarist from Benin who moved to my home town, Ottawa, in 2000 and sadly passed away in 2020. As the title suggests, there is a repetitive melody or chant that is heard three times, each time with a different background texture. Like all African music, it's very rhythmically based and is in an odd time signature of 15/8.

West 4th St

"West 4th St" is the first single from the upcoming album, Longing, from South Korean, New York-based vocalist Hyeon Seon Baek. The lyrics are in Korean and English and tell the story of how the intense Jazz scene influenced him in New York City. The title is the name of the street where the jazziest neighborhood in the world is, and he lives. With Kevin Hays (piano), Linda May Han Oh (bass), Jochen Rueckert (drums) and Lucas Pino (tenor saxophone).

Awakening

The title track from bassist & composer Andrew Vogt’s upcoming full length album Awakening is a miniature jazz tone poem that elicits the emotions of new beginnings. Featuring Dustin Laurenzi (s Matt Ulery, Bon Iver) saxophone, Christian Euman (Jacob Collier), Stu Mindeman (Kurt Elling) and guitarist Joel Ream beautifully playing all the colors of a sunrise. This chill, rubato jazz composition is best enjoyed with your morning cup of joe.

Samba de Llanandras

A video record of the Steve King Big Band (UK) recording the first of the big band arrangements of two Samba pieces by composer Simon Deeley. The arrangement of "Samba de Llanandras" is by fine Sheffield arranger and composer Chris Noble. The composer Simon Deeley named the piece after his home town the Welsh county town of Llanandras (UK) and, as he says, wishing it to be a light hearted tribute to the border town.
